After 2 days of driving, we started our adventure in Gator Park, located in the Florida Everglades National Park, west of Miami, Florida. |
After we dropped off the Scuba crew, at Seabase, on Wednesday, the sailing crews headed down to Key West for a day of sight-seeing. |
We arrived at Seabase. First order of business was taking our swim test, getting our gear ready for the boat, meeting the captain, stowing gear on the boat then after a meal in the dining hall, we set sail. At the end of the week we were back at HQ. After cleaning our boat, unloading our gear, we were ready for one final flag ceremony and our feast, a Hawaiian Luaua. |
The Jewell of Athena, our home for the week. A 41 foot long sailboat, built in 1966. Beautifully restored by our handy captain, Captain Hammer. |
The scouts were involved in all aspects of sailing the "Jewell". |
We had many opportunities to snorkel. Here are some photos shot underwater. |
During our long cruises, we were able to troll for fish. Caught a few, nothing edible. |
One day the captain dropped us off at an island. We were able to explore the historical sights there. |
Midweek, back at Seabase HQ, we were able to go Bicycling. |
Also during our midweek break, we got to go tubing. |
Another midweek break activity, VOLLEYBALL! |
Our last night at Seabase we had a Luau. Many crews did skits, the staff led us in songs, we even had a limbo competition. |
On our way home, the bus alternator quit working. Forcing us to spend time at Cici's, an all you can eat pizza buffet, with video and arcade games. |
